Truck causes 33-car pile-up during heavy G20 convoy

MAJOR traffic disruption occurred on Saturday after a truck ploughed into 33 cars on the N14 in Krugersdorp, Johannesburg, during heavy convoy movements heading to the Nasrec Expo Centre for the G20 Leaders Summit.
According to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), the crash happened at about 8.30am on the R28/N14 highway near the Silverstar Casino interchange and resulted in significant traffic delays.
"A major accident occurred earlier this morning at approximately 8.30.am, involving a Volvo Interlink truck and 33 motor vehicles," said JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla.
Preliminary reports indicate the truck, which was carrying animal feed, collided with stationary traffic, causing a massive pileup.
