Hawks arrest SAPS sergeant for extortion

POLICE Sergeant Xolani Sibiya, arrested by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) last week for allegedly soliciting a R1,000 gratification from an alleged thief, has been released on R1,000 bail.
The 41-year-old sergeant, attached to the Whiteriver SAPS, appeared in the Whiteriver Magistrate's Court for his formal bail application.
Hawks spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, confirmed the court's decision.
"Sergeant Xolani Sibiya was granted R2,000 bail by Whiteriver Magistrate's Court," Lieutenant Colonel Nkosi said.
