Yates expects big changes to Vale squad this summer

Yates insists there will be a lot of work to do in the summer for Port Vale regardless of what division they are in next season.The former Valiants defender, a stalwart of 10 years as a player at Vale Park, has always thought the squad is too big and will need downsizing.

That didn’t happen in the January transfer window, so it will need to be pruned in the close season.

It is understood that around 17 players are out of contract in the summer, but Yates countered: "It’s a big number but is it a big number when you have 18 or whatever number under contract?
