But the 40 properties look set for approval

- Phil Corrigan Local Democracy Reporter

DOZENS of residents are fighting plans to build 40 homes in fields on the edge of a village.

The proposals would see the development of greenfield land east of Woodside, in Baldwins Gate, currently used for grazing horses.

Seventy-four residents and three parish councils have objected to the plans, saying they are contrary to the area's neighbourhood plan.

Objectors claim that the homes would result in the loss of valuable grazing land and wildlife habitats, and would put additional pressure on local amenities and infrastructure.

They have also raised concerns over traffic safety on Woodside and the risk of flooding. But the application from Jones Homes and Renew Land has been recommended for approval by planning officers at Newcastle Borough Council.
