MARK Robins was happy to give the plaudits to penalty shootout hero Jack Bonham as Stoke City edged past Walsall in the Carabao Cup first round.

- Peter Smith STOKE CITY

Robins made nine changes to his starting XI and admitted it looked like some of the players he brought in needed the chance to get minutes under their belt to get up to speed.

Jamie Donley hit the bar while Bonham made a key injury-time save to stop Jonny Stuttle before it went to spot-kicks.

Tt was all square after the first four takers from each side, then Bonham saved from Albert Adomah and stepped up to score himself with a blasted effort to secure a place in round two.

“I'm delighted for Jack,” said Robins. “He’s waited patiently, he works hard every day, as does Frank.
