Onneley move right side of the line with vital home success

ONNELEY jumped out of the NSSCL Division Three relegation zone with a six-wicket success at home against Bagnall Norton 2nd xi.

Onneley were set 165 for victory art the weekend - and had Jake Short to thank for securing a much-needed triumph in their battle for survival.

Short compiled 97 not out, which contained 19 fours and one six, while Jibu Abraham added 22 to complete the win.

Bagnall Norton had earlier amassed 164-8 from their 40 overs, in which Ben Richardson made 49, Alex Dodd added 42 not out and Spencer Ashby weighed in with 23 not out.

Attique Hassan Raja claimed 4-8 for Onneley, before they dealt with batting business to eight points clear of trouble.

Second-from-bottom Oakamoor 2nd XI were beaten on their visit to Longton seconds.

Longton took first use and managed to make their way to 201-4 from their 40 overs.

A Basit’s 55, which contained nine boundaries, formed the backbone of Longton’s tally.

A Alles weighed in with 41, with other contributions coming from A Mack (33no), B Mack (28) and A Ridgway (23). H Smith took two wickets.

J Mason (41), M Edwards (30) and M Dale (22) impressed with the bat in Oakamoor’s run chase.
