New friends bowled over by unexpected win in first event
The Sentinel
|April 25, 2025
BOWLERS Paul Brown and John Rankin have become firm friends - after teaming up for the first time to win a doubles tournament.
Paul is in his first season at Baddeley Green Working Men's Club where John is a longstanding member.
They only decided to enter the Tony Woods Doubles Tournament together when John saw that Paul didn't have a partner for the event.
And they are now celebrating an unlikely victory in the event at Fenton Private Bowling Club after coming back from 18-7 down in the final.
Paul said “I really wanted to play in the tournament, but it’s my first season at Baddeley Green and everyone had their own usual doubles partners.
