Mum overcomes health challenges to expand business
The Sentinel
|March 03, 2026
A YOUNG entrepreneur has refused to let her health problems hold her back - launching a successful business despite regular hospital visits.
Lauren Reid, aged 29, launched 'Reid & Twin' back in 2022 following the birth of her daughters.
The independent business began with mum-of-three Lauren selling goods for babies and toddlers online, before opening her own stall in Longton Market last September. Now she has expanded by combining her parents' craft business, Weston Wood Wishes, with her own.
Lauren, of Weston Coyney, said: "I struggle with a few health conditions. I have a blood disorder - called pyruvate kinase deficiency - which I've been in and out of hospital with since birth. It means my red blood cells break down too early, which makes you tired and can affect your health in other ways.
"Then in 2013, I had my gallbladder removed. One of the complications of the blood disorder was that I was getting a lot of gallstones, so I had to have it removed. After that I had my spleen removed in 2018. I also had open-heart surgery.
