Meir have reason to cheer after claiming first scalp of season

It had been a testing start for Meir Heath as they suffered four straight defeats to commence their summer schedule.

However, they finally had something to cheer as they banked a six-wicket win at the weekend.

It was far from straightforward, though, as the prospect of another defeat loomed large in their run chase.

Meir Heath were set 146 to take the points, but found themselves 40-4 in the early stages - despite Farrhuk Javed's 22 after double strikes from Simon Line and Jamie Shaw.

But Aqib Ali and Muhammad Raja made sure that Meir Heath finally sampled the winning feeling as they constructed an unbroken stand of 111.

Ali hit seven fours and three sixes in his 54 not out, while Raja's unbeaten 53 featured 12 boundaries.
