Library books date with planners after number of flats reduced again

PLANS to turn a former library building into an apartment block have been changed again with the number of flats now reduced to 89.

Hanley Library Redevelopment Ltd has previously drawn up two schemes to convert and increase the size of the vacant former City Central Library in Hanley.

Back in 2023 council planners blocked the original proposals criticising the 'poorly designed, disproportionate and dominant' extension, as well as raising concerns over residential amenity, highway safety and fire safety.

Last year, the applicant then submitted updated plans reducing the number of flats from 106 to 101 and increasing its height by four storeys, adding that it had addressed each of the reasons for refusal.
