Leek suffer heaviest defeat for over two years as poor away run goes on

Town slipped to their third successive defeat, all away from home, in going down 5-1 at Rushall Olympic in the top division of the Northern Premier League.Rushall opened the scoring in the 12th minute when a long ball from deep was brought down well by Nick Clayton-Phillips and he lobbed it over 'keeper Noah Cooper.

They doubled their lead from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark. Jamie Willetts was brought down in the area and Mckeal Abdullah duly netted the spot kick.

Rushall made it 3-0 in the 51st minute when a Carroll Lycett cross was headed home by Alex Moore.

Six minutes later the Blues pulled a goal back when Lucas Weir steered a Hayden Campbell cross into the net.

Leek pressed for a second goal but Rushall made sure of the points with a fourth in the 88th minute. Sam Unitt played the ball to substitute Liam McAlinden and he fired a shot past Cooper from a tight angle.

The former Wolves striker scored again in time added on with a powerful effort that flew into the top corner. It was Leek's heaviest defeat for more than two years.

In the West Division,

NANTWICH TOWN ended a run of five successive defeats with a 3-1 victory over Bootle at the Swansway Stadium.

It was a tight affair before the Dabbers took a 31st-minute lead when a teasing cross was headed past Tony Thompson by Aidy Roxburgh for his first goal for the club.

Eight minutes later it was 2-0 as Bootle tried to take a quick free-kick but leading scorer Alex Panter intercepted it and raced forward before firing a fine effort into the net from the edge of the box.
