ATHLETICS Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson eased through the heats of the women’s 800m as the World Indoor Championships got under way in Torun, Poland.

Hodgkinson kicked off her bid for a maiden indoor world title in rather straightforward fashion as she strolled through the heats with a time of 2:00.32, almost a second quicker than second-placed Valentina Rosamilia.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed an impressive few weeks during the indoor season, having broken a British record in Birmingham in February before going on to set a new world 800m indoor record time a week later in Lievin.
