How do we treat bunny ear mites?

It seems our two rabbits have caught ear mites from a rescue kitten we've just rehomed.
They developed crusts in their ears and were shaking their heads. The kitten is being treated with ear drops but we are not allowed to put these in rabbits' ears as it can harm them. Is it hard to get rid of the mites?Your vet will have looked at the mites with the microscope to identify whether the cat ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) is the problem here, which seems most likely. Signs tend to be less severe initially.
