HANFORD seconds kept their composure to secure a one-wicket win at Checkley thirds in NSSCL Division Seven.

Hanford were set 165 for victory, but the outcome was firmly in the balance after C Cooper (3-25) and J Dowling (3-31) starred with the ball for the home side.

However, Hanford found their way over the line - with three overs to spare - thanks to N Akhtar’s 67, which included six fours and two sixes.

A Raza also lent a helping hand with a crucial 30 in a thrilling conclusion.

Earlier in the say, A Bennett struck seven boundaries in a top score of 53 as Checkley reached 164-8 from their 40 overs.

J Richardson chipped in with 30, while M Sagheer claimed 5-35 for Hanford.

Hem Heath fourths were in excellent form to bank the points at Audley thirds.

F Walley (39), C Leese (34) and 26 apiece from M Rahim and L Hussain led Hem Heath to 206-7 at the halfway point. C Birkin picked up 3-34.

In reply, J Austin made 30, while A David (19), D Birkin (15) and J Morgan (10) also made starts.
