Robins says defender has stepped up another level since being given responsibility of Stoke's armband
MARK Robins believes handing Ben Wilmot the captain's armband has helped the defender step up another level.
Wilmot is set to make his 150th league appearance for Stoke City today when he leads the team out at Portsmouth in an early kickoff (12.30pm).
The 25-year-old is probably enjoying his most consistent form since joining the club in 2021 and Robins can see changes in his character too.
"He's a great lad," said the manager. "There are a number of great lads here. They are all fantastic people and competitors. Ben has been good.
"He is quiet, I would say, but thoughtful and now he is communicating more than I've ever seen. Giving him the captaincy has helped bring him out of himself a little bit more. He's intelligent. He's sometimes emotional but that's fine. He keeps it in check.
