Burglar found hiding under bed after fleeing cop car

A BURGLAR Jay Herbert broke into two homes and stole more than £2,000 worth of goods.

The homeless 28-year-old targeted unoccupied city properties in July. He first stole a motorbike, helmet and clothing worth more than £1,000 from a house in Austin Street, Hanley, with a group of criminals on July 12.

Eight days later, Herbert broke into a property undergoing renovation in Brook Street, Stoke, after scaling a wall and climbing through an open window.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard he stole more than £1,000 worth of tools and a radio that workmen had left inside the address.

When arrested in September, he escaped from the police vehicle and was found hiding under a bed in Fenton a few days later.
