£300k plan to stop roads being turned into 'lakes'

Community leaders back new system of 'gullies' in hotspots near the A53
MORE than £300,000 will be spent to stop two key city roads from flooding following heavy rain.
Highways engineers are pushing ahead with the scheme on the A53 and Baddeley Green Lane after both roads have been regularly left submerged during downpours.
The Sentinel reported how motorists were forced to perform U-turns on the A53 on January 1 this year when it was left looking like a mini lake.
It followed a previous complaint to the council over the situation exactly 12 months prior.
Now Stoke-on-Trent City Council has outlined proposals to finally fix the issues in the area.
It has revealed Leek New Road will cost £250,000 and Baddeley Green Lane £60,000, with cash from a Department for Transport grant.
