£15k bid to ensure Rupert, 2, has 'life-changing' treatment

FUNDRAISER: Jasmin and Dan Smith want life-changing treatment for Rupert, right.

FRIENDS and family are rallying around a mother's bid to secure her son an experimental treatment that may change his life.

Jasmin Smith, aged 39, wants to raise £15,000 to help two-year-old son, Rupert Smith.

Rupert was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and global developmental delay in August after an MRI scan at the Royal Stoke University Hospital revealed he had suffered brain damage to his frontal lobes following a traumatic birth.

But now a novel treatment may help to repair Rupert's damaged brain - using stem cells from his newborn sister's placenta. Jasmin's baby was delivered on Wednesday.
