QC, MMDA brace for Uwan

The Quezon City government has begun preparations for the possible impact of Severe Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, which will be named Uwan once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility and make landfall in central or northern Luzon late Sunday or early Monday.

For its part, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) appealed to shopping mall operators in the entire Luzon to “open the parking spaces in their facilities to the public, free of charge for overnight parking.”

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said this would “greatly help protect lives and properties amid this severe weather event.”

In Marikina City, Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro ordered the declogging of waterways, prepositioning of rescue boats in strategic areas and readying of 36 evacuation sites, in case families need to be evacuated.
