A pressing concern for the Philippines' economic growth is reliable energy.
To address this, government and private sector energy experts gathered last November 6 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino for a forum titled "Powering Cebu," organized by The Freeman and sponsored by Visayan Electric Company (VECO).
The forum highlighted the urgency of addressing power supply concerns in Cebu, where peak demand is projected to double by 2032.
Miguel Belmonte, president and CEO of Phil Star Media Group (PMG), emphasized that Cebu Province alone accounts for half of Central Visayas' energy demand, while Metro Cebu accounts for more than half of the province's demand.
"Economic prosperity can only happen if Cebu is able to attain energy security," Belmonte stated.
