PNP: Security measures in place for rallies
The Philippine Star

Saying they are also seeking accountability, acting Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez assured participants in anti-corruption protests today that PNP personnel would not interfere with their demonstrations for as long as these are peaceful and orderly.
Nartatez said yesterday all security measures are in place for the rallies at Rizal Park in Manila and EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City, noting that more than 50,000 police officers have been deployed nationwide.
The National Capital Region Police Office went on full alert at 1 p.m. yesterday as part of proactive measures to ensure public safety.
Rally organizers said around 30,000 people are expected to attend the "Trillion Peso March" at the People Power Monument and the "Baha sa Luneta" rally.
Nartatez urged protesters to respect police officers, reminding them that the PNP personnel are not their enemies but are in the rally venues to maintain peace and order.
Just like ordinary citizens, Nartatez said they also want answers on the alleged corruption in flood control projects.
"Just like everyone else, every member of your PNP is a taxpayer too. We also want answers, seek for truth and call for accountability," he said in a statement.
Nartatez reminded police officers to maintain maximum tolerance in their engagement with protesters and to implement crowd control, traffic management and rapid response measures.
