How Lani Misalucha 'Re-trained' Herself to Sing After Health Scare

But the journey leading up to this milestone hasn't been easy. In fact, it's one of her most challenging battles yet.

Back in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, Lani and her husband, Noli Misalucha, contracted bacterial meningitis. The illness left both of them partially deaf and with lasting effects on their balance due to vestibular disorder. For a singer whose life revolved around hearing and pitch, the aftermath was heartbreaking. It's also one of the reasons why it took her half a decade before deciding to return to the concert stage after "And The Story Begins" back in February 2020 with Basil Valdez and National Artist for Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab.

"You are constantly dizzy and gumagalaw ang vision. Until now, the condition is the same," the singer opened up about the impact of her health scare in a presscon.

One could say that Lani's world shifted—literally and figuratively. She described the dizziness as persistent and disorienting.

"Of course, I'm a singer and mahirap yung pandinig. So, I went through that phase wherein...should I say, I experienced depression? I don't know if I'm going to admit it but it's hard to describe...na parang ayaw mo nang kumilos."
