House Status Quo Likely in Speakership Fight

Just like in the upper chamber where Francis Escudero may retain his post as Senate president, it might also be a status quo in the House of Representatives where Martin Romualdez is bound to stay as speaker.
This was the forecast of House spokesperson Princess Abante following the manifesto of support signed by at least 291 of the 314 incoming members of the 20th Congress, who all gave their vote of confidence to Romualdez.
"It appears that Speaker Romualdez has a clear support for the speakership," the lawyer-spokesperson told ABS-CBN yesterday.
Iloilo Rep. Janette Garin divulged to House reporters that former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was among those who endorsed and vouched for Romualdez, along with Negros Occidental Rep. Javier Benitez.
