Higher tobacco floor prices loom

Floor prices for tobacco in the local market are expected to increase following the completion of consultations among farmers, traders and cigarette manufacturers.
A source at the National Tobacco Administration (NTA) yesterday said the agreed adjustments would cover the next two cropping cycles, 2025 to 2026 and 2026 to 2027, ensuring better returns for growers affected by rising production costs.
“The separate consultations with all parties have been completed and they have already agreed on the increase, which is now up for final approval by the board,” the official told The STAR, adding that the new rates could be issued as early as Nov. 14.
