BSP earnings more than double in Q1

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) more than doubled its net income to P40.2 billion in the first quarter, boosted mainly by hefty foreign exchange gains and lower operating expenses.
Preliminary data showed the central bank's income surged by 122 percent from P18.1 billion in the same quarter last year.
The BSP's total revenues, mostly of interest income on foreign investments, government securities and Treasury bonds, dipped to P67 billion in the first quarter from P67.1 billion a year ago.
Interest earnings climbed by 12.7 percent to P60.4 billion from P53.6 billion.
