Business groups have joined calls urging the Supreme Court (SC) to reconsider its decision declaring the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional.

- — With Jose Rodel Clapano

"We join a nation hopeful that the SC shall steadfastly resume its role in defending the Constitution that the Filipino people have ratified at a pivotal time in our history," the Management Association of the Philippines, Makati Business Club, Justice Reform Initiative and Integrity Initiative said in a statement yesterday.

"With much respect to the Court, we add to the voices of our nation's luminaries and set forth our observations on why the decision in Duterte v. HOR (House of Representatives) merits reconsideration," the groups said further.

Earlier, the SC declared the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Duterte as unconstitutional, noting that it is barred by the one-year rule under the Constitution and that it violates the right to due process enshrined in the Bill of Rights.

While the SC is not absolving the Vice President from any of the charges against her, it said that any subsequent impeachment complaint may only be filed starting Feb. 6, 2026.
