Two wanted officials of Sunwest Construction and Development Corp., a company linked to former Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co, have sent surrender feelers as authorities continue the manhunt for suspects in the flood control scam, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said yesterday.

- Mark Ernest Villeza

“They have communicated already,” CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II told a press briefing at Camp Crame, noting that some relatives of the suspects have reached out to the police.

Morico said the three wanted Sunwest executives currently in the country seem unable to hire private lawyers despite holding high positions in the company, describing their corporate titles as “dummy” roles.

He added that the CIDG is ready to receive the suspects once they surrender, assuring them that their human rights will be respected.

Four other Sunwest-linked personalities, including Co, remain abroad. Morico said the CIDG is working with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the National Bureau of Immigration (NBI), with efforts underway to monitor their movements and cancel their passports.

He confirmed that a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) official implicated in the cases is also overseas, currently in Israel.
