Trump flies the flag for a new global age of graft

When a US president makes a foreign trip, he is preceded by a travelling circus of diplomats, logistics teams and armoured limousines flown in on military cargo planes. For Donald Trump’s visit next week to the Middle East, the most important part of the advance guard was the family firm.
Last week, his younger son, Eric, was in Dubai, selling a crypto coin issued by a new company 60% owned by the Trumps. A hop away in Qatar, Eric announced three Trump-branded developments including a $5.5bn beachfront golf resort. His brother, Don Jr, couldn't be there, but only because he was announcing plans for a Trump hotel in Belgrade.
Prepare for more. An NGO that tracks ethics in US politics says 20 more Trump properties will be unveiled in this term, from Scotland to Indonesia. The Trumps are an energetic family. It's conceivable the brothers would have made a living as developers even if their father hadn't entered politics. It is inconceivable that his presidency hasn't smoothed their way to deals worth billions.
