PM Modi’s Somnath address reaffirms India’s civilisational resilience: BJP

|12 Jan 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, commemorating 1,000 years since the first attack on the Somnath Temple, is a powerful reaffirmation of Bharat's civilisational resilience, Sanatan values and enduring spiritual strength, said BJP spokesperson and Convenor, International Affairs, BJP Jammu and Kashmir UT, Gaurav Gupta.
Gupta described Somnath as far more than a historical monument, stating that it symbolises the soul of Hindu faith, the continuity of Indian civilisation and Bharat’s unbroken spirit.
He said repeated attempts by invaders, from Mahmud of Ghazni to Aurangzeb, to destroy the temple were based on the mistaken belief that demolishing shrine would weaken India’s faith. “History has proved otherwise. Those invaders are remembered only in history books, while Somnath stands tall today as a symbol of faith’s victory over fanaticism,” he said.
