Law on honour killing: CM forms committee
The New Indian Express
|October 18, 2025
CHIEF Minister M K Stalin on Friday announced the constitution of a commission-headed by retired Madras High Court judge Justice K N Basha, and comprising legal experts, progressive thinkers and anthropologists- to recommend measures to prevent honour killings in Tamil Nadu.
-
Based on the panel's report, the state government will bring in appropriate legislation, the CM said.
Making the announcement in the Assembly while responding to concerns raised by members during the discussion on supplementary estimates for 2025-26, the CM said the commission would gather views from political parties, legal professionals, social activists and affected individuals before submitting its recommendations.
EMPHASISING that Tamil society has long been admired for its intellect, Stalin said it should not allow internal strife to divide it.
"No civilised society can accept the act of one human being killing another. Not just killing hatred, violence and humiliation too are unacceptable in a cultured and progressive community," he added.
