BEHIND THE SCIENCE essie Virginia Griffin, better known as Bessie Blount, was an American physiotherapist, inventor, and pioneering figure in the field of healthcare, particularly for people with disabilities.
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on November 24, 1914, Blount broke barriers in her professional life, contributing to medical science in a variety of ways, especially in the development of devices that aided disabled veterans and others with limited mobility. Blount's most significant contribution was her invention of a self-feeding device in the 1950s.
