Oppn sees red over public security Act, Maha 'teeth to probe agencies'

THE Opposition has demanded scrapping of the proposed Maharashtra Special Public Security Act, saying the legislation will give abundant powers to police and probe agencies.
The state government has sought suggestions and objections from the public representatives, social activists and organisations by April 1, 2025 to strengthen the proposed law to combat the growing urban Naxals in the state. The Act will give authorities, mainly investigative agencies, broad powers to declare organisations unlawful and arrest people for alleged anti-national activities.
After the objections, the Act was sent to a joint House committee under BJP MLA and revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
