Security: MEA says no permission to Yemen visit in Nimisha Priya case
The New Indian Express Vellore
|August 03, 2025
THE External Affairs Ministry has denied permission to the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council to send a five-member delegation to Yemen to negotiate the release of Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse on death row in the conflict-ridden country.
In a formal communication, the MEA cited serious security concerns, the absence of diplomatic relations with the current authorities in Sana'a, and a Supreme Court ruling that negotiations in such cases must be handled strictly between the victim's family and the convict's family or their authorised representatives among the reasons for not giving permission for the delegation.
