Ex-rly staffer averts train derailment

THE timely detection of a one-centimetre-wide crack on the railway tracks in the Karur-Tiruchy section near Sithalavai station in Karur by a former railway employee averted the possible derailment of the Ernakulam-Karaikal Express (number 16188) on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The train departs Ernakulam junction at 10.45 pm and reaches Karaikal the next day at 11.45 am.
The fracture was identified by one Kaliamoorthi, a retired railway staff member, who alerted the officials, and helped stop the train.
Consequently, passenger train services along the section were delayed by 45 minutes till the crack was fixed, sources added.
