Julia Roberts speaks with Hilary Morgan about her latest film, After the Hunt, and why it's important to have open conversations about controversial subjects

‘Trouble is Where the Juicy is’

Julia Roberts has a thing for playing complicated women, and this time she is the one at Yale University, playing a professor in her latest film, After the Hunt, which has garnered controversy for its handling of a sexual assault accusation. In this conversation, the 57-year-old icon speaks about the controversy, her career, and why she doesn't like to stay in a character off-screen.

Andrew Garfield, your costar, has called you a national treasure. How do you react to that?

I really don't know. He says things he knows will make me feel uncomfortable. He knows where my tender parts are. It's sweet of him to speak like that. Andrew is just incredible. I have never known a human so profoundly introspective. It is so beautiful to listen to him pontificate on life. He holds a very special place in my world.

What was your initial response to first reading the After the Hunt script and this character?
