Hospital to pay ₹60k over negligence in baby care

TIRUNELVELI Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on July 7 ordered Krishna Maternity Home and Pediatric Centre Pvt ltd, a private hospital management in Palayamkottai to pay ₹60,000 to a 27-year-old woman for administrative negligence leading to health complications to her newborn, who was admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with jaundice.
The complainant, Syed Ali Fathima, a resident of Krishnankovil, had delivered a baby girl at the hospital on May 11, 2023, during her eighth month of pregnancy. According to her complaint, the baby weighing around 1.385 kg at birth, was diagnosed with neonatal jaundice and suspected sepsis and was admitted to the NICU for treatment.
