FISHERMEN from Manapad village have strongly opposed the Tamil Nadu government's recent proposal to establish a seaport in their area, accusing authorities of ignoring the voices of the local fishing community.
At a committee meeting held on July 16 at the fish landing centre, fishermen expressed outrage, saying they were neither consulted nor informed about the project. They alleged that the government was favouring private investors by offering attractive perks, including long-term leases ranging from 30 to 99 years, which they believe will severely impact their traditional livelihood.
