WEST Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each for the families of 39 people who, she claimed, died due to panic and stress triggered by the ongoing SIR of poll rolls in the state.
Thirteen others, including three booth-level officers (BLOs) who allegedly collapsed under "excessive workload", will also receive ₹1 lakh each, she said, while releasing the report card of her government's performance during the past 14 years. "Till now, 39 ordinary citizens, including four BLOs, have died due to SIR panic, including suicides," the CM said.
