Congress, UDF miffed with Tharoor's recalcitrance

AS Congress MP Shashi Tharoor marches to the beat of a different drummer with controversial statements, a feeling is growing in both the Congress and UDF that enough is enough. However, the Congress leadership in the state has conspicuously decided not to succumb to any type of provocation coming from Tharoor which might ultimately give a political edge to the four-time Thiruvananthapuram MP.

"If Tharoor wanted to leave the Congress, let him leave," a senior UDF leader told TNIE on condition of anonymity. "He has become ambitious and opportunistic. I think if he leaves the Congress, that will be good for both Congress and the UDF. There was a time when we thought that he could become a consensus CM candidate if the war between some leaders in Congress continued unabated. But now we could not even think about it," he said.
