Wild jumbo scare: Sleepless nights for Muthalamada's mango farmers

IN THE past, incessant rain and pest attacks turned villains for mango farmers at Muthalamada in Palakkad. Recently, they have been dealing with a new headache—wild jumbos.

According to the farmers, wild jumbo menace, a relatively new problem in the area, is giving them sleepless nights as the animals are not only a threat to their crops, but also their lives. The death of a farmer in a wild elephant attack in Mannarkkad, some 60km away, has added to their concerns.

Situated in the border region of Palakkad, around 30km away from Palakkad town, Muthalamada is famous for its sweet mangoes. Surrounded by hills, the beautiful village is also a tourist attraction for its greenery.
