Hurried containment and measures follow the death of 58-year-old man from Mannarkkad, who died with symptoms resembling Nipah virus infection

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Palakkad

AUTHORITIES have released the detailed route map of a 58-year-old man from Mannarkkad, Palakkad, who died on Saturday night with symptoms resembling Nipah virus infection. Initial testing at Manjeri Medical College Hospital confirmed the presence of the virus, prompting urgent containment and surveillance measures in the region.

The deceased had sought treatment at two private hospitals in Mannarkkad over the past week, and was later shifted to a private hospital in Perinthalmanna on Friday evening with severe respiratory distress. As he showed symptoms similar to Nipah, he was admitted to a specially arranged critical care unit, but died later. The burial was conducted on Sunday afternoon, attended only by close relatives and health workers in accordance with safety protocols.
