Fitness review done before postponing tests for school buses

THE MOTOR Vehicle Department (MVD) carried out an 'accident prevention-based fitness review' in the last few weeks before issuing the order allowing Educational Institution Buses (EIBs), whose fitness certificates have expired or are about to expire soon, to continue plying for another four to five months, Transport Commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam said on Friday.
His reaction comes in the wake of the TNIE report published on Friday about the recent order issued by his office allowing the extension of validity of fitness certificates of all EIBs, whose fitness has expired or is about to expire in the coming months, till April 2025.
