Precaution Turns Hazard as Felled Logs Lie Abandoned Along Highway

Failure to auction, clear timber in timely manner has turned the roadside into a danger zone

What began as a safety measure has now become a major safety hazard for residents and commuters. Despite the felling of trees posing danger along the Kollam-Thirumangalam national highway and adjoining hilly stretches, massive logs have been left abandoned on the roadside for over two years.

The logs, now overgrown with vegetation and encroaching onto the carriageway, pose a greater risk than the trees ever did. Such logs can be seen strewn across the forest stretches from Vilakkudi to Aryankavu and on the hilly highway from Pathanapuram to Kulathupuzha.
