Duty Waiver for Life-Saving Drugs: A Big Relief

The Union budget's announcement of basic customs duty exemption on 36 life-saving drugs and medicines used in the treatment of cancer and rare diseases has received a mixed response from health experts.
Though the decision aims to reduce the financial burden on patients, some say this doesn't make any major impact on the affordability of cancer care in the country or the state. They argue that GST exemption for medicines, medical equipment and health insurance would have had a greater impact in making treatment more affordable.
