THE Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Election Commission of India (EC) not to erase or reload the data in the EVMs while carrying out the verification process.
It was hearing a plea seeking directions to the EC to allow verification of the burnt memory and Symbol Loading Units of the EVMs.
A two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta also sought a detailed response from the election body after hearing an application filed by the NGO, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
The bench said the Standard Operating Procedure framed by the EC for verification of the EVMs was not in accordance with the April 2024 judgment in the EVM-VVPAT case.
