Bihar on high alert after spread of bird flu, stops eggs in mid-day meal

AMID the spread of bird flu in Bihar, the state government has issued a directive asking officials of the education department to halt the supply of eggs for meals being served under the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Scheme to students enrolled in government schools.

Sahila, director of primary education and MDM, stated, "An alert was issued by the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to the Bihar government over a rise in the incidents of bird flu. We have asked the officials concerned to stop the supply of eggs for mid-day meals being served to students with immediate effect."
