Unsettling calm at ground zero hours after deadly rush

SUNDAY morning brought an unsettling calm to New Delhi railway station, where just hours earlier a chaotic stampede had claimed 18 lives and left countless others shaken.
The stampede occurred around 9.55 pm on Saturday night when passengers headed to Prayagraj congregated at platform 14 and 15. According to railway officials, Prayagraj Express was stationed at platform 14, while the Swatantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express were delayed, leading to overcrowding on platforms 12, 13, and 14. Many eyewitnesses said the situation turned chaotic when a last-minute change of platform was announced.
