Many injured as mob attacks cop cars taking Zubeen death accused to jail

SEVERAL people, including cops, were injured on Wednesday in Assam's Mushalpur in the Baksa district when a mob clashed with the police protesting the shifting of five people arrested in connection with music icon Zubeen Garg's death, to the recently inaugurated Baksa Central Jail.
The incident occurred outside the jail. The protestors attacked police vehicles with stones, smashing their glass panes. Some journalists were also hit by stones. At least three police vehicles were torched.
Initially, the police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the irate mob. When that failed, they fired tear gas shells and blank shots. The district magistrate enforced prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS as the situation remained tense. The state government has temporarily suspended mobile Internet services across Baksa district.
