India Focussing On Exporting Silkworm Seeds To Africa

Central Silk Board member secretary and International Sericultural Commission secretary general P Sivakumar said they are concentrating on exporting silkworm seeds to foreign countries, especially African countries where there is a good market and the initiative has been taken as part of the diversification of sericulture.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Sivakumar said the board is promoting private firms for the production and export of seeds to foreign countries to capture the market. The demand for bivoltine seeds from developing countries is improving. There are 12 private companies which are producing bivoltine seeds which produce two crore seeds annually apart from the total 20 crore mulberry seeds produced in the country.
