Inaugurating the newly-developed Ashokpuram Railway station at the cost of ₹45 crore and flagging off trains here on Saturday, Somanna said the Central government in the 2014 budget allocated ₹845 crore for the railways projects in Karnataka while it is not the case with the Modi government which has allocated ₹7,546 crore.

Taunting the state government for accusing that nothing has been given to state in the Union Budget, the Union Minister said work on Tumakuru-Rayadurga, Tumakuru-Chitradurga, Tumakuru-Chitradurga-Davangere, Bagalkot-Hubballi, Dharwad-Belagavi-Huballi-Ankola, Gadag-Wadi, Shivamogga-Renebennur, Kadur-Chikkamagalur, Belur-Hassan and Marikuppam-Kuppam lines will be completed in a year as ₹12,000 crore have been released for the works.
